EXPANSION OF EXISTING ITIs

Vision : To inculcate technological skills amongst youth to empower them for gainful employment through technical & vocational education; and to enhance productivity of formal & non-formal sector of economy by having close interaction with industry.

A large number of  Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) had been started in many places with very small capacity of less than 100 students, making them very unviable. Following 22 such ITIs have been taken up for expansion (upto 500 students capacity) at a total cost of Rs. 120.00 crores. These projects will be completed by August, 2008 and will add a total of 9712 seats to the ITIs. It may be mentioned that there is a great demand for admission in the ITIs.  In  the year 2006-07, 85,000 applications were received for admission against 8500 seats in 79 ITIs.
